Train conductor spots odd thing on side of the tracks. But when he looks closer—he halts the train-teaser

Maggie Ren
Losing somebody you care about is always rough and it can be hard to fill that void. When Chris Arsenault of Coram, New York, lost his 24-year-old son in a motorcycle accident, he wasn’t sure what to do. Yet a few months later, Arsenault got his answer in the most adorable form. One day in 2006, while working his job as a train conductor, he saw something by the side of the track. It was a group of abandoned kittens. “There were 30 little kittens and I could tell they were sick,” Arsenault told SWNS. “I knew if I left them there they would die so I brought them home with me.” Once the cats were nursed back to health, Arsenault felt really good about himself. He realized how much joy he gets from helping look after animals, so he reached out to nearby charities and shelters to find more cats in need. His house received a makeover to better accommodate the cats.He called this new and improved home the Happy Cat Sanctuary. Arsenault now wakes up bright and early every day at 7 a.m. to take care of his many pets. He feeds them, cleans their litter boxes, tends to their health, and even makes them roast chicken for dinner. Still, Arsenault makes sure each cat who comes in gets spayed or neutered, ensuring that there aren’t any accidental new additions to his posse. Cats are also available for adoption. Many, though, have been rescued from tough situations, so don’t make good family pets.
