Fire Department Helps Students Commemorate Prom Night Despite Blizzard-teaser

Maggie Ren
A record-setting blizzard hit Minnesota ruining prom night at Forest Lake High School. But local firefighters stepped up and hosted the prom goers at their fire station. Jill Graven, wife of a Forest Lake firefighter: “The teens seemed really excited to have their pictures taken next to the fire trucks.” Over 200 high schoolers came to have their pictures taken. And soon, #BlizzardProm popped up on social media. Alyssa Thomas, another firefighter’s wife: “It was pretty cool to see so many of the firefighters volunteer their time with just an hours notice shoveling, plowing, and opening their doors for all the kiddos!” Fire station prom may even become a tradition. Jill Graven: “Parents couldn’t thank us enough for the hospitality.”   “We’ve been asked to do it every year now!”
