Case dismissed vs. mom charged after taking daughter’s phone

York Du
Charges against a Michigan mother who took her daughter’s iPhone away were dismissed. Jodie May of Grandville said she took the phone from her 15-year-old daughter as punishment. The girl had gotten into trouble at school. “I was just being a mom, a concerned parent and disciplining my daughter,” May said. That’s when May’s ex-husband got involved. He said he owned the phone and claimed May stole it. She was arrested by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies in May and faced time in prison. Just minutes before the trial, though, prosecutors said they learned the daughter owned the phone. The prosecutors recommended the charges be dismissed and the judge agreed. May railed against what she had to endure after the trumped-up charges, calling it “ridiculous.” “I’m very surprised, but I’m very happy with the outcome,” she added.
