Virtuoso Nemanja Rebic on Using Music for Greater Service

Celeste Li
When it comes to raising awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong, of course the goal is to stop the persecution. It's still ongoing, it's a really great injustice. That's the main goal, to show people the true facts about it, because a lot of people, especially in China, have a lot of misgivings about it - and it's not their fault, because they've been exposed to false propaganda. For them to know the truth about it and understand it, that's a very precious thing I also try to share the music, the beauty of the art, and just who I am as a Falun Gong practitioner through this art. Essentially it's all very positive, even the stories that inspire me, the persecution stories, are very positive stories because people come through that hardship, come out of it as stronger people. I came across people who went through unbearable suffering, but they're some of the most positive people I have ever met. It's actually very bright; I see it as a very bright thing. And it can't last forever eventually the world will know the truth. Whoever you are as an artist, whatever it is the art that you make, that substance of yourself is going to be embedded into what you do. It's inseparable. If you create something that feeling, people will get it. And it's often way more powerful than words. It transcends languages, it transcends any kind of boundary. People from any part of the world can hear something that has that universal message and relate to it. If it's really sincere and true, it can bypass a lot of preconcieved notions we create in our daily life and just hit you straight into your heart. So that's the power of music. So even if the piece is instrumental, it doesn't tell you the words, it carries that feeling.
