New Powder Restrictions Enforced on International Flights From June 30

Kuting Feng
New rules relating to the transport of powders on International flights will take effect on June 30. It will apply to passengers with carry-on luggage on flights bound for the United States. Passengers carrying more than 12 ounces (350 mL) of powder, such as cosmetics, talcum powder and dry spices, will be subjected to additional screening. Powder greater than 12 ounces must be placed in a separate bin for X-ray screening. Staff may dispose the powder if it cannot be identified. Passengers with greater amounts are encouraged to place them in checked luggage. The announcement was made by America’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The new rule is partly prompted by a failed bomb plot in July 2017, said the TSA. “These enhanced screening measures enable TSA officers to better screen for threats to passengers and aircrew while maintaining efficiency at checkpoints throughout the U.S.” – TSA spokesman, Michael England Australia will enforce similar rules also starting on June 30.
