A wolf was tracked leaving the radioactive Chernobyl
Zone, and travelling 229 miles from its home.
This raises questions about mutated genes
being spread to outside animal populations.
"Instead of being an ecological black hole, the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone
might actually act as a source of wildlife to help other populations in the region."
—Michael Byrne, Assistant Professor
The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ) is
a 1,660 square mile area in Belarus and Ukraine.
Following the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster,
the area remains heavily contaminated.
GPS technology was used to track the movement of
the young wolf out of the CEZ into the surrounds.
